The Cowboy in Unit E by Kris Cook
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the second book in the series and it felt good to revisit this close-knit group of friends. While you could read it as a standalone starting with the first story will give you the background to people and situations that are referenced in this instalment. Anytime there is a cowboy mentioned I admit I’m the first in line. While Luke is definitely a rodeo cowboy he is on hiatus as he focuses on his family as they all recover from a terrible loss.
Trace is immediately attracted to the new resident of Mockingbird Place though confusion and misunderstanding mar their first meetings. Once that is sorted out the real problems emerge and can be tackled. I love how caring Luke is towards Ava and how they both are immediately folded into the complex resident’s family. As Trace helps Luke and Ava, he in turn is helped even more to recover from past trauma that he never recovered from. The romance is hot and sweet, albeit a bit quick, but I couldn’t help but feel for the pain both Luke and Trace were going through.
While still missing that emotional kick that would only make this story better, this is another solid addition to the series.
