Love, love, love!

This is the third book in the series and this one hit it out of the park! The first two were excellent and this installment amped everything up a few more delicious notches! This is Jared and Sparrow’s story and, while it deviates from the location and focus of the series so far, it has all (and more) of the action and feels I am coming to expect.

Jared and Hoyt Crowe are brothers in blood, heart and every other way that matters. Members of an elite military task force their mission this time out is highly personal. Jared especially can’t let go of the haunting memories of their childhood, of a family that did anything but nurture and cherish. Yes, that is beyond an understatement. When Hoyt turns up missing, fearing the worst, Jared goes back to where it all started intent on finding his brother and answers to questions that have plagued him his whole life. When he found Sparrow Pickney as well, everything just got a lot more complicated. And despite the serious tone to the book, there are scenes that made me downright squeamish, there are glimpses of humour that had me smirking and smiling.

“Drugging him seemed underhanded, dirty, and perfect.”

Sparrow could go head to head with Jared on “who had the worst childhood” so how they came out as well-adjusted as they did still has me shaking my head. Considering all that it’s no wonder the trust between these two is hard won and shaky at best. Facing challenges together that rock that trust to its core makes for another roller coaster ride of highs and lows that left me breathless and wanting more.

Violence and betrayal are just a few of the evil things that lurk in the dark and even in the familiar as Sparrow and Jared, along with Hoyt, have to use every bit of mental and physical strength they have to survive. Whether you join them in tears or anger, these characters are going to stick with you for a long time. They certainly have with me as I feel the need to re-read their story already!
