Twisted Mind by Mia Hoddell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was one heck of a book 2. And this author is quickly proving herself to be one heck of a story teller. All of the emotions and character dynamics that were shown in book 1 were brought into this story with two more people to get to know and love.
In the very beginning of the story Dustin is given news that completely rocks his world on its axis. He shuts down and has no desire to let anyone near him physically or emotionally. Right in the midst of his emotional upheaval he literally runs into Tazia. And while he has no more desire to let her in then he does anyone else in his life, he finds that it can't be helped because she won't take no for an answer. But Tazia is also running from her own demons. And she is equally determined to not share her burden with anyone, least of all Dustin for fear that she will lose the connection they are just starting to form.
This story was full of so much emotion and heartbreak and yet was also filled with so much strength and determination to persevere. These two broken characters went through some pretty devastating experiences. And yet their journey through it all is so well written that it made for a fantastic story. I knew I loved Dustin from how supportive and wonderful he was in the first book when helping his best friend, but I fell in love with him right along with Tazia in this one. And in Tazia, Dustin not only met his match, but met someone finally deserving of him. But it's really how they get to their realizations that makes everything worth while.
This book was just so good that I can't imagine how Mia Hoddell will match it, let alone try to top it in book 3. But I do know I can't wait to see her try.
