Hooked by Brenda Rothert
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Funny, sarcastic and sexy…
Jake is a hottie NHL hockey who’s never had a problem with the ladies. Well, no problem saying hello and quickly goodbye to his fleeting sexual encounters. Add in strange game day rituals and a slightly (ha ha) crusty exterior and you would think he wouldn’t be all that appealing. Oh no, think again! Ask Miranda… She may be just cleaning his hotel room but his extended stay means she has the opportunity to dig under the surface. Even if she says she doesn’t want to…
“I’m not an anal bastard, okay? I’m a hockey player.”
I loved the rhythm and pace of this story from the start as Jake and Miranda started their flirty and fun banter at their very first meeting. She sassed and he flashed as they started to break down the barriers they each held up to the world. Miranda was dealing with a jerk boss and more things to do in a day than she had time for. She was working towards goals that she needed no distractions from. Jake, on the other hand, was faced with a woman he wasn’t sure how to handle, which made it so much fun to watch!
“You admitted that you have an unusually small dick.”
“No, it was fine. We had a moment over it. The cab driver said he’s gone one, too.”
They were fun and sexy, supporting and serious – all good things you would want in a loving relationship. And I could feel that love growing as they started building a relationship that neither was really ready for.
“You’re like… this freight train of amazing that just came flying toward me out of nowhere.”
I picture Jake and Miranda as Prince Charming and Cinderella. If Prince Charming is a sexy prick with a heart of gold (deep, deep down) and Miranda as a uniform-wearing, ‘not waiting for her knight to save her’ type of heroine. In other words, hot and fun in just the right combination! This was my first read from this author and I am hooked!
