Drakon's Promise by N.J. Walters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a really excellent start to a series from a new to me author. In this story you have Darius, a drakon who's lived centuries and seen things people can only imagine. But during that time he's also been hunted by a group of humans who call themselves Knights of the Dragon. They have learned that Drakon blood can slow down aging for a person, and cure any illness. While unknowingly working for a member of the Knights, Sarah hears of a plan to kidnap Darius. Her kind heart compels her to warn him and this introduces her to a world she never dreamed existed. Now Darius and Sarah are on the run for their lives and dealing with an unexpected attraction along the way.
Being a fan of paranormal romance, I've come across dragon stories before, but this was a whole new take on it. I loved the re-imagining brought into play with this story. The beginning of this whole new world was given, and yet there is more to learn, even by the characters themselves.
Darius and Sarah were perfect. Not only in the way they were written, but for each other. I love that they both have very distinct personalities that balance well with the other. And then you have secondary characters that add to the story, and set things up well for future books.
I certainly enjoyed this story and look forward not only to reading the next in the series, but also reading more from this author.
