Singe by Aly Martinez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really loved this book. It was a touch nerdy, had suspense, heat and two broken people that shared the same scars.
Rhion is a recluse/romance author (that nobody know about). She talks in paragraphs which usually have very little to do with the question that she was asked. She is fun and full of life, except she hasn't ventured out in the world in a long time. She is also the star of Jude's nightmares. Jude has recently moved back to the town where is life fell apart to start a new job at Guardian in the private security sector. He is damaged and carries his scars like a shield. He blames himself for everything not right in his life and just wants to be the best he can so he never lets anyone fall again.
Rhion and Jude met, by happenstance, the night of a horrific fire. They both have very different versions of events and the sorting through the details was a big part of this story, along with a creeper and meeting a cast that will star in the rest of the series. This is not the first book I have read by this author and I am really excited to read the rest of this series. There is something about her story-telling where she mixes the quirky with the heavy and draws me in. Her characters are bold and multi-dimensional; Rhion is a bit crazy, completely quirky but is scared to go outside. She is a strong character in a lot of ways and most of all she is a fighter. Jude harbors more guilt than anyone, but is a fierce protector and lover. He wants to own everything all at once and is a stickler for the details. Then there is this blooming cast of other characters that all have tons of personality and stories of their own. There were a number of things happening but they all flowed well together, some suspense that had me hold my breath and of course some smoking sexy times...over-all just a great read for me.
