Jess's Review ~ Ride Hard by Laura Kaye

Ride Hard (Raven Riders, #1)Ride Hard by Laura Kaye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book in Raven Riders but not my first by this author. She writes characters and stories that are slightly inter-connected but each series and characters can stand-alone. This book was the introduction into the Raven Riders MC and we start with the President Dare who just took in some new clients, Cora and Haven.
Now I have read a number of different MC books and this one has a different spin on it which definitely makes the story more interesting. The Raven's are on the "right" side of he law, most of the time and they are trying to make a difference to those that are close to them and the town in which they operate. Their "clients" are not what you would expect. This story had a lot of information and it was a good start to what should turn out to be a fun and exciting series.
Dare is rough around the edges but is thoughtful in his actions and thinks before he takes. He comes from a questionable background and every day tries to not make the same mistakes from the past. Haven is on the run from a terrible situation and has found herself a guest to the MC. While crime is not a stranger to her because of her own upbringing she doesn't know what to make of this group of characters and isn't sure how attached she should get since she has to keep looking over her shoulder.
I enjoyed this book, it was smart and well-written. There were times that things went a little slow but it was building up the scene and place that all the books after will be set. There was some sexual tension that lingered for what seemed like a long time and unlike some of the other books I have read by this author before. But the build up was part of the enjoyment and then of course there was the heart-pounding action. I look forward to seeing where the rest of the series is going and see how these other characters fair.
