The Sex Bucket List by Prescott Lane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Emerson is a 40 year old divorcee. One drunken night with her girlfriends, and the Sex Bucket List is made. Mateo is the head of security at her family's airline. When he accidentally sees the list, he decides it's his chance to make his move. He's wanted her for a long time. He was just waiting until she was ready to move on. Now the list is his and he'll make sure everything is crossed off.
I loved the fact that Emerson is a character my age, dealing with moving on while still in love with her ex. We get to follow her as she struggles with doing what her head feels is right, and what her heart wants. She's a thinker. Her kids want nothing but for her and their dad to get back together, but only when she finds out he's been dating does she decide to give things a chance with Mateo. Yes he was younger, but he was strong, mature, kind and patient with Emerson. He was good with her kids and even tried being decent with Ryan (her ex). He was a man who was confident, but not cocky and not afraid to go after what he wanted.
Prescott Lane did an amazing job portraying the fears of a middle aged divorced mom. Who wouldn't want to do whatever they could to make their kids happy? That's what good parents do, but it takes a very strong mom to occasionally put herself first. This book really showed us that in order to be the best parent you can be, you also have to be happy with your life. We could all certainly learn some lessons from Emerson!
