Jess's Review ~ One is a Promise by Pam Godwin

One is a Promise (Tangled Lies, #1)One is a Promise by Pam Godwin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

description

Beautifully written and captivating. I knew going in this was going to be messy and that it was book one of trilogy. So I didn't expect things to work out nor all of my questions get answered. I didn't quite expect things to end the way they did. Between a mixture of the past and present you get a good idea about where Danni came from to where she is now.

In the present she is ready to move past her broken-heart. Her sadness and emotions were all over the place. She lost the love she fears she will never get back but when Trace bulldozes into her life she might be ready to give it another try. Trace is an enigma, he says and does things that don't always make sense. In his tailored suits and stoic ways he becomes someone that could move Danni past this hole in her heart and life. But he is cold and callous and at times kind of an a$$. Then there is a glimpse of what is under that hard exterior and perhaps he's not as much of unfeeling Nordic God as we think.

In the past we become acquainted with Cole. He is bold and bit of bad-boy. With his motorcycle, tattoos, possessiveness but kind heart, I fell in love with him faster than Danni did. But when he leaves, it crushes Danni. You understand how much she loved him and how her world is not the same now that he is gone. When everything reminds her of him and all of her future plans were based on a life with him, moving forward takes years.

Danni is kind, has a smart mouth, ridiculously horny, conflicted and wear her emotions on her sleeve. She doesn't always make the smartest decisions but my heart hurts for her. This book is told strictly in her POV which makes sense when you get to the end because there is a lot of explaining that needs to be done. Like A LOT. So I am hoping that we get some other POVs in the next two books.

I really enjoyed this book, I loved the heat, the heart-felt bleeding emotions, the messy and complicated story that is about to unfold and of course the jaw-dropping ending. I am ready for more now.
